Tell us a little bit about yourself Jaz… (kids, fam, location, age, jobs, etc)

I live in Northern NSW in a beautiful small beach-side suburb close to Tweed.

I have 3 boys- Marlow-7, Valli-4 and Lenny-2. They are very much outdoors kids so it’s been beautiful living so close to the beach.

I work as a nurse, I do some content creation and I also love creating ceramic pieces for Staycay when I get the chance.

I absolutely love clothing, shopping is an addiction of mine but I love being creative with clothes and finding unusual gems that will stay in my wardrobe forever.

I love Pilates and I love a good book!

You’re newer to the world of content creation - how did this come about?

I used to help my bestie with her content and really enjoyed it. I think maybe featuring in some of her things and loving that process so much made it natural and nice for me to start sharing my day to day outfits. It was so nice seeing people enjoy that.

It’s grown slowly but it’s so nice having people reach out for outfit ideas and styling for fun events that they need help with.

How does one get into pottery and what inspired you to put your brand out there? We love your bright aesthetic and quirky designs and clearly so does the KC customer. How did it feel seeing your pieces resonate so strongly with the KC customer?

I went to a few classes at a local ceramicist and loved it so much.

I did that regularly with friends then started doing it in my garage and in my living space.

If you can find a local place that runs classes that is great place to start to see if you love it.

I wanted to get it out there because I didn’t really see anyone making anything like them and still haven’t. I think they are such a beautiful piece of functional art-form and get so excited to see them light up customers books or spaces in their homes.

It brought me so much joy to see KC customers enjoy my pieces because I love the brand so much. It’s so rewarding to see the same customers of the brand loving pieces I have made. It’s the best feeling!

What were your first couple of things you made and did you nail it from the get-go?

I went to my first couple of classes with a vision to create a particular lamp and it worked out beautifully and i became slightly obsessed with making those.

I wanted to make them in all colours and patterns.

My first piece I made was a taller lamp I painted her with black stripes and my gf has her in her room now.

Do you have a favourite piece? What pieces are in your home because you couldn’t part with them?

My favourite piece I unfortunately sold but it was to my sister. It’s a beautiful lamp. I love the colours and the textures.

I couldn’t part with one of my very first lamps so I have held onto her and she lives in my living room on-top of the record player. I have parted with so many lamps I wanted to keep but I love the thought of them lighting up a space or a nook in someone else’s house.

I have a fun bowl and some dishes I have created along the way that I have kept for my jewellery.

Tell us what’s different about the second drop of Staycay on KC.

I have struck with the boldness and fun in the colours and contrasting but have gone for more simplicity in the form. I like that they are slightly chunky :)

Not only are you super creative, you’re juggling the messiness of motherhood as well. How to you fit your ceramics in?

Oh gosh I really try to use whatever free time I have (that’s rare these days). When I do clay it’s time I get entirely to myself where I get to completely immerse myself into being creative so I just try and find the time. I mostly do it on Wednesday’s  when I don’t have the kids but quite often i am smoothing things out or making sure details are right  at night with the kids running around or during day naps on the weekends

Do you have any rituals and routines that ground you?

I absolutely love a bath. Any night in can squeeze one in I will. It has to be after my youngest is asleep (obviously) but I’ll take in my kindle or I’ll watch a show.

I am really trying to learn the art of meditation this year and also trying to run, if I can do 2x 5km runs a week I am stoked, I have found it so good for my mental health.

I also love to watch some garbage whilst I do clay.

Any recommendations for the KC fam - listening, reading or watching?

I just finished reading The Wedding people.

I needed a light book to get back into reading and quite enjoyed that one!

I have been listening to the Audio book- Mel Robins “let them” whenever I am can in the car and I have learnt such relatable and great things from that book about focusing on your my own reactions and inner peace is more productive than trying to change other people's behaviour.

I am obsessed with The Vampire diaries series so watching that for the 3rd time if you were after a sugary recommendation.

What’s next for you? Anything exciting on the horizon?

I would love to make a series of smaller lamps- bold and beautiful colours for kids rooms. I think a smaller size would be beautiful for a bedside table next to some books.

I love creating functional art pieces but would love to make a sculptural piece to hang on my wall.

We’re so excited to be collaborating once again with Jaz Miles of @staycayceramics on a small run of hand-crafted incense holders, launching tonight. Each piece is lovingly made, full of charm, and a beautiful reflection of Jaz’s playful style and KINGA CSILLA’s artisanal spirit.

Wearing our Love Potion collection, Jaz brings creativity, colour and calm to the everyday, from her studio to your home. These limited pieces won’t last long.

Live now, until sold out.
