We're taking time to chat with Sydney artist Britty Flynn about her emergent practice as a studio painter.
Her works stand out to us by the way they evoke wildlife, dreams and playfully surreal still life arrangements,
that might well place her with contemporaries such as Jess Locke or Jini Maxwell. We ask about work, play, and daily styling.
Our mission has always been to connect people to their food. The story behind this wasn’t super tasty at the beginning but has a deliciously sweet ending.
Like many young girls and boys, I struggled with body image, and knowing what food to eat was a constant battle. I would research and go back and forth with different rules and diets that were branded as ‘healthy’ but, for myself, were actually just restrictive.

The Makehaus create room designs that evoke a building elation - a bit like hearing a new playlist staple for the first time, or trying on a dress that becomes a mainstay. The words 'subdued and simplified' might come to mind first, to describe the neutral palettes that backdrop their work but don't be deceived. Stylistically, their approach to surface, shape, shadow and material gives a whisper the impact of a scream. It brings modulations of glimmer, asymmetry and - occasionally - offbeat playfulness to a room (oh yes, we clocked that expanding foam mirror frame). We sat with Dani to ask her some questions about process, taste...
"Around the time I stopped doing Lemon, Melbourne went into its first lockdown. The last few years I had been wanting to paint again but I think I was a bit scared about starting. Lockdown provided me with the perfect storm...I wasn't able to work, I had my toddlers full time and my husband was still working long days every day in Construction"
